ABOUT ATHENA INTERNATIONAL
Founded in 1982, ATHENA International's mission is supporting, developing and honoring women leaders, inspiring women to achieve their full potential and creating balance in leadership worldwide. ATHENA International fulfills its mission through various programs, including the ATHENA Leadership Award, ATHENA PowerLink®, ATHENA International Women's Leadership Day and ATHENA Forums in over 600 communities in eight countries. The global, non-profit organization was founded in Lansing, Michigan nearly 35 years ago by Martha Mayhood Mertz, a successful entrepreneur and business leader who later went on to write an extraordinary book about the unique characteristics of women leaders entitled, Becoming ATHENA: Eight Principles of Enlightened Leadership.
After years of extensive research, and a grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, Mertz pioneered the ATHENA Leadership Model® which identifies eight distinct attributes of women leaders. Women are reshaping the landscape of business, and companies that create more gender balance at the top see better results in terms of increased revenue and strategic growth. ATHENA's Leadership Model puts the training programs in place to prepare for this new paradigm attuned to the needs of a changing world. What were once thought of as “women’s ways” of leading have become the gold standard for leaders of both genders, and the building blocks for success in today's global economy. We invite you to become involved with the ATHENA movement right here in central Florida. Like most nonprofit organizations, we're volunteer driven and we need your help to advance our platform.
